Description:

MAX is an infinite capacity, backward scheduling system,
therefore humans must keep the overall level of planning in check.”

Capacity management in MAX has been elusive over the years, primarily due to the lack of a capacity management “module.” Don’t be fooled though, the lack of a formal module does not mean that MAX cannot do capacity management. In fact, because MAX is an infinite capacity planning system, most organizations MUST use capacity to validate their production plans. This webinar explains two levels of capacity management in MAX; rough-cut capacity planning and shop floor operations sequencing (i.e., priority).

The focus of the session will be looking at MAX schedules via the capacity management process. This process begins at the master scheduling level of the Manufacturing Control System (MCS) model and involves converting material quantities into planning hours for critical work centers for as long as your production schedule extends (i.e., your cumulative manufacturing lead-time). It then continues at the shop floor execution level once shop orders are released into work in process.

At both levels, we need to concentrate on determining the demand for capacity generated by our schedules so that an assessment can be made about the supply of capacity.  For a schedule to be realistic, the demand for, and supply of, capacity must be kept in balance, at least for critical work centers.
